When talking about our dream garages, we usually choose to fill them with high-end luxury cars and high-horsepower sports or muscle cars. The fantasy cars we pick often boast obscene power ratings and prices, but what if your dream garage was limited to a cumulative 400 hp?
That’s the question Motor Trend forum member Frisky_Dingo asks in today’s Thread of the Day. The rules are simple:
- As many cars as you want, but a minimum of two
- The cars can be new or old, and can be from any market
- Manufacturer’s horsepower ratings – no modifications
- No more than 400 hp combined
Some interesting combinations can be had with less than 400 hp. Here are just a few examples suggested around the office:
- Smart Fortwo (70 hp), Fiat 500 (101 hp), Mazda2 (100 hp), Mini Cooper (121 hp): 392 hp
- Mazda CX-5 diesel (170 hp), Subaru BRZ (200 hp): 370 hp
- Chevrolet Spark (84 hp), Porsche Boxster S (315 hp): 399 hp
What cars would you park in your 400-hp dream garage? Share your choices in the comments below.
I’d take two—the Fiat 500 which I would use just to bop around town and do errands…and everybody would stare at it…women would think it’s cute. And then my Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited…a roomy, comfortable road vehicle to take on trips or go off road. Fiat: 101 hp; Jeep 285 hp…total 386 hp. The frosting on the cake is that both of these vehicles are Chrysler products so I’d have a 5 year/100K powertrain warranty, stronger than Ford, Toyota, and some others.
2012 VW Golf GTI because its practical and pretty fun for a FWD hatch. 2013 Subaru BRZ it’s RWD and has plenty of power for day to day driving. Exactly 400hp. The only sad thing would be that a new more powerful GTI is about a couple month away and Subaru is gonna introduce an STi version of it’s BRZ
