Set to replace the Ford E-Series vans here in America, Ford has debuted its new line of Transit and Transit Connect utility vehicles.

The transit is a full-size two-ton global van and takes some design cues from the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter’s high roof. It will be powered by the 3.5-litre V6 EcoBoost gasoline engine, or an optional diesel powerplant that will make it 25 percent more fuel efficient that the E-Series van that it will replace. Different body configurations will be available here in the States, including both long and short wheelbases, as well as standard- and tall-roof variants.

The Transit Connect got a facelift as well, and now wears the Aston-Martin copycat front grille that is being adopted across lineup. Ford claims that the Transit Connect is on track to deliver best-in-class fuel economy and CO2 emissions in America, and will also be offered here in short and long wheelbase versions.

“With the all-new One Ford commercial vehicle line-up, Ford will have the most comprehensive and most up-to-date line-up of CVs in Europe. No brand will offer wider coverage of the light and medium commercial vehicle segments than Ford,” said Barb Samardzich, Ford of Europe vice president of product development. “We leveraged our global expertise into designing the new Transit family from the ground up with superb capability, best-in-class cost of ownership and amazing new features.”

Both of these utility vehicles are due to debut here in the States in 2013 as 2014 models.
