August Compact Crossover Sales: Ford Escape Takes Huge Lead Over Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V should be worried, because the Ford Escape has once again been crowned the best selling CUV on a month-to-month basis. It’s been a close race between the two, but the Escape was way ahead of its closest rival in August, getting closer to the class-leading Japanese CUV’s year-to-date sales.

Although the CR-V also saw significantly increased August sales it wasn’t enough to regain first place. With only four months left in 2012, the Escape could unseat the CR-V as the king of compact crossovers.

The Chevrolet Equinox remained solid in third place, moving 20,231 units last month, bringing its year-to-date total to 151,027. With the Toyota RAV4 far behind the Equinox in fourth place with 15,685 units, its closest competitor is the Nissan Rogue, which sold 12,626 units.

Just below the 10,000 mark and behind the Rogue is the GMC Terrain, with 9143 sold. The Subaru Forester placed above the Mazda CX-5 and Hyundai Tucson, with 6956 crossovers sold, but that could change if the new Crosstrek grabs a few consumers otherwise set on a Forester.

Wow, the Escape’s really on fire!

The escape looks pretty good but why is it all of the sudden becoming the king again? I think the looks are comparable to the Kia Sportage and it’s not even listed ha ha. Is it just the reputation? Escape has been around for a while so people trust it? I know they sure trust the CR-V for that reason.
