Citroën has pulled the wraps off its new DS3 Cabrio, which will make its official debut in September at the Paris Motor Show. The new car is a convertible version of the French automaker’s existing DS3 hatchback, and is schedule to hit showrooms in early 2013.
The DS3 Cabrio has a power soft top can operate at speeds up to 74 mph, and Citroën says that it will offer the largest trunk in its segment while simultaneously seating five passengers. Citroën hasn’t revealed much other information yet on the new convertible, but it should use the same four-cylinder gas and diesel engines as its hardtop sibling. Citroën says the new car provides its drivers with, “Pleasure non-stop,” although the company doesn’t exactly explain exactly how…
More details will be announced at the car’s debut, which is scheduled for the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September. For now, though, these photos reveal a seriously stylish small convertible. Instead of a traditional convertible roof, the DS3 Cabrio essentially has a large, fabric roof section that rolls back. That means that instead of a truly open-air experience, the new Citroën simply has a wide-opening roof like that of the Fiat 500 convertible – or, for that matter, the original 2CV.
The DS Line, inspired by Citroën’s legendary DS luxury cars sold from the 1950s through the 1970s, also includes the DS4 and DS5 hatchbacks. It should go without saying that Citroën, which does not have an active presence in the U.S., won’t bring the DS3 Cabrio to American shores.
