Reports have surfaced that Porsche is developing a new Volkswagen Group platform derived from the Porsche Panamera (pictured), and that the platform, christened MSB (Modular Standard Platform), will underpin Bentley models in the future.
The MSB platform is likely to be made up of aluminium and steel, and involves the engine being pushed further back in its bay, which should improve handling for next-gen Crewe cars.
The upcoming drop-top Mulsanne is slated to be the last Bentley model to be powered by the legendary 6.75 litre L-Series V8, making way for Volkswagen-developed V12s, with diesel and hybrid options also likely. The ‘six-and-three-quarter’ will be phased out by next year, as re-engineering for Euro 6 regulations is too costly.
Bentley is a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, which added Porsche to its stable of brands in July.
