The Mercedes-Benz C-Class was the top seller in the compact luxury sports sedan segment in August, with sales of 6519 units. That performance was good enough to edge out other class stalwarts including the new BMW 3 Series.
Since both BMW and Mercedes-Benz lump sales numbers of all body styles into one entry — including sedan, coupe, and convertible models — we combined the sedan and coupe/convertible entries of automakers that list body styles individually. With that, the Infiniti G was second-best-selling in August, selling a combined 6261 sedans, coupes, and convertibles. Third place went to the supply-constrained BMW 3 Series, which sold 6206 units.
The Cadillac CTS was fourth, with 5136 sales. Though that model is larger than others in the class, it will remain a price competitor until the 3 Series fighter ATS arrives this fall. With combined sales of 4854 units, the four-door Audi A4 and two-door A5 land in fifth place, followed by the Acura TL in sixth with 3201 units sold. The Lexus IS, Acura TSX, Buick Regal, and Volvo S60 fill out the bottom four places in our charts.
