For 2013 Honda Accord drivers who want more than the 189-hp direct-injection 2.4-liter I-4 can offer, a V-6 engine remains available — instead of a turbocharged I-4 like some competitors. The new-for-2012 Toyota Camry and 2013 Nissan Altima round out the best-selling midsize sedan V-6 powered trifecta, and we want to know what you think: how well will the new Accord V-6 compete with the Camry V-6 and Altima V-6?
The 2013 Accord V-6 have seven horsepower more than the 3.5-liter in the outgoing model and fuel economy is up thanks in part to a new six-speed automatic transmission. The 2013 Accord V-6 is expected to earn official EPA ratings of 21/34 mpg city/highway, which matches the Toyota Camry V-6’s city rating while beating the Camry by 4 mpg highway. The Nissan Altima V-6 beats the 2013 Accord by 1 mpg city, but only matches the Camry’s highway rating. Official EPA ratings for the Ford Fusion 2.0 EcoBoost haven’t been released but expect the numbers to fall near the top of the V-6/turbo-four midsize sedan class.
Each of the Japanese midsize sedans is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6, with the Accord producing 278 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque, the Camry rated at 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque, and the Altima at 270 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque. As for the new Fusion 2.0 EcoBoost, the Ford sedan will produce about 240 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque.
Would you consider the Honda Accord V-6 over the Toyota Camry V-6, Nissan Altima V-6, and others like the Ford Fusion 2.0-liter EcoBoost and Hyundai Sonata Turbo? Share your thoughts below and don’t forget to check out our 2013 Honda Accord First Look here.
