In Allstate’s eight-annual ‘Best Drivers Report’, Sioux Falls, South Dakota was once again ranked the safest driving city in America for the fifth time in the history of the report.
According to the report, which ranks America’s 200 largest cities in terms of car collision frequency based on Allstate claims data, the average driver in Sioux Falls will experience an auto collision every 13.8 years. That’s 27.6 percent less than the national average of 10 years.
Just how are these statistics determined? Allstate considers an auto crash as any collision resulting in a property damage claim. Its auto policies represents about 10-percent of all US auto policies, so it’s a fairly realistic snapshot of what’s going on around the country.
In a close second was Boise, Idaho, that had a 27.3-percent less likely chance, while Fort Collins, Colorado (26.7-percent), Madison, Wisconsin (23.0-percent) and Lincoln, Nebraska (19.3-percent) round off the top five.
As for the popular cities in America? The statistics are as expected. New York is a dismal number 176 on the list with a 41.1 percent chance of having an accident, with the average years between collision at 7.1 years. And the traffic-packed city of Los Angeles? Number 182 with a 6.7 year gap between collisions.
“Allstate’s Best Driver’s Report was created to boost the country’s discussion on safe driving. Each year we hope the report will increase awareness about the importance of being tolerant and attentive behind the wheel,” said Mike Roche, senior vice president of claims. “We want to recognize the city of Sioux Falls for being the safest driving city in America, and whether you drive in a large city, small city or a rural area, we encourage all Americans to practice safe driving habits and good car safety.”
