AutoGuide Week-In-Reverse: Obama, Romney Banned from... Send us your Tips! MANUFACTURERS BY REGION Vehicle Types Shows and Events Motorsports Aftermarket Lifestyle

Long focused solely on luxury, Lexus has been branching out and exploring its sporty side as of late and may take another bold step to grow its enthusiast backbone.

While the LFA supercar earned the Lexus brand respect amongst the exotic car companies of the world, not to mention buyers of those cars, the Toyota luxury division is exploring the possibility of offering a wild track-ready concept car for sale.

Introduced at the Tokyo Also Salon last year, the IS-F CCS-R or Circuit Club Sport Racer, is a track-ready version of the road-going luxury sports sedan. While the engine and transmission remain unchanged, the track warrior gets upgraded suspension components, wheels and tires, not to mention functional aerodynamics. Plus, with a stripped-down interior, the CCS-R weighs a remarkable 1,300 lbs less than the street car.

Speaking to Lexus Magazine, IS F Chief Engineer Yukihiko Yaguchi has confirmed a production version of the CCS-R is a definite possibility. Cautioning that there are no plans to mass-produce it, Yaguchi says it, “depends on the customer needs.”

“If there is a demand, then there’s the possibility of producing this in larger volumes,” he said.

Regardless of the outcome, we’re likely to see some of the CCS-R trickle down into future Lexus products. According to Yaguchi the car is being used as the benchmark for the next-generation IS-F, which is due out in 2014.
