The “Stop the Texts. Stop the Wecks” campaign has kicked off in full speed and now National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is adding to it by urging drivers to “designate a texter” while on the road.
NHTSA teamed up with the hit television show Glee to spread its new campaign against distracted driving last week, and now the safety administration is hoping to play off the designed driver term with a designed texter. Teenagers have been speaking up against distracted driving, offering themselves to be the designated texter so that their driver doesn’t put them and others in harms way. A recent study conducted revealed that 78-percent of teens now speak up and point out against a distracted driver.
“Borrow thumbs from a friend,” said the NHTSA campaign which is dubbed ‘Stop the Texts. Stop the Wrecks.’ “Or lend yours to a friend. Passengers get the privilege of texting while in motion.”
