C6 Swan Song: 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 427 on Latest Ignition

With the seventh-generation Corvette arriving soon, Chevrolet is sending off the C6 Corvette with one last hurrah: the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 427. On this episode of Ignition, Carlos Lago drives the Corvette 427, which receives much of the Corvette Z06 coupe’s performance hardware including the 505-hp 7.0-liter LS7 V-8, six-speed manual transmission, suspension, brakes, wheels, and tires.

Although the heavier soft-top loses some rigidity compared to Corvette coupes, the 427 is nearly as quick as the Z06 in a straight line as well as around Motor Trend’s figure-eight course. The Corvette drop-top is also one of the shortest stopping convertibles we’ve ever tested. As impressive as the Corvette 427 is, though, Lago says the significant body roll and chassis noise make it difficult to drive comfortably at the limit.

Lago enjoys the LS7 engine’s character more than the ZR1’s 638-hp supercharged 6.2-liter engine, though he does point out some of the C6 Corvette’s shortcomings. Check out the video below to hear Lago’s conclusion on the Corvette 427.
