BMW will showcase xDrive versions of its 1 Series during the upcoming Paris Motor Show meant for many markets worldwide, but not the U.S.
While an all-wheel drive version of the 135i would certainly be an entertaining possibility, selling something like that in North America would introduce redundancies in the brand’s line. MINI, a subsidiary brand of the Bavarian automaker, currently sells its cars with available all-wheel drive and it’s easy to assume that offering an xDrive-equipped 1 Series would tread in those car’s territory.
Still, it’s a shame given the system’s potential for driving fun with the 315-hp turbocharged inline six-cylinder found in the 135i. Outside the U.S. market, the diesel-powered 120d will get xDrive treatment, though once again it’s not a car bound for North American sale.
