Porsche is trying to solidify the performance credentials of the upcoming 918 Spyder supercar and has taken it to where else, but the Nurburgring. In a post in Porsche’s official Facebook page, the Porsche 918 Spyder’s time is pegged at 7 minutes, 14 seconds.
That time puts the 918 Spyder in good company. The 2010 Dodge Viper ACR hit 7:12 and the Lexus LFA completed the ‘Ring in 7:14 last year, then breaking the reported production car record (from a major automaker) that had been set by a Porsche 911 GT2 RS in 2010, at 7:18.
We’ve spied the Porsche 918 Spyder plenty of times before, well before its expected production date of September 18, 2013. The all-wheel-drive exotic will have a mid-mounted 4.6-liter V-8 supplemented by two electric motors powering the front and rear wheels. Altogether, the car will have at least 770 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Just 918 units are said to be built and, with its advanced powertrain, the Porsche 918 Spyder may boast one thing the Lexus LFA and last-generation Dodge Viper can’t: the lack of a gas guzzler tax.

And I meant automakers taking stock cars with non-stock equipment and claiming that it was completely stock. Keep the safety equipment out of the car, and then see what it can do STRAIGHT from the factory. All these ZR1 and Z06, and ACR times(non beit the 7:22 ‘Ring time) are BS. If you have to slow down because of lack of safety equipment.. then just slow down.
Wow, a three quarter million dollar “green” exotic sports car that’s nearly as fast as a $100,000 three year old Viper ACR !!
