We already knew that Buick would be adding its eAssist mild-hybrid system to the 2013 Regal. Now, we have a price tag for the upgraded sedan from the tri-shield brand: $29,990 with destination, undercutting its competition.
The new price represents a $2050 increase over the 2012 model. That price jump is largely thanks to the addition of eAssist, which previously was a standalone $2000 option. Gone is the base 2.4-liter I-4; the 2013 Regal now offers with three powertrain options (instead of four). Standard is an 182-hp 2.4-liter I-4 mated to a 15-kWh electric motor, while a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 — rated at either 220 hp in the Regal Turbo or 270 hp in the GS, are available at extra cost. A six-speed automatic is standard on all Regal models, and Buick also offers a six-speed manual on the Regal GS and Turbo Premium III as a no-cost option.
Buick has also made the non-GS turbocharged engine essentially a no-cost option – the Regal Premium I and Regal Turbo Premium I trims will both start at $31,520, a change of $2145 and $375 for naturally-aspirated and turbo models, respectively. Stepping up to the Premium I package nets goodies like passive keyless entry, rear parking assist, and remote start. The next rung up is the Premium II package, which adds niceties such as HID headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a Harmon/Kardon surround-sound audio system. Pricing for either the 2.4-liter or the 2.0T starts at $32,930, an increase of $2145 for the former and $375 for the latter. The Regal Turbo gets a top-spec Premium III trim that – at $34,100, or $295 more than its comparable 2012 model – nets things like 19-inch wheels and adaptive suspension. The range-topping Regal GS rises $145 to $35,865, and differentiates itself from lesser models with unique front and rear fascias, unique suspension tuning, Brembo brakes, and an extra 50 hp.
The 2013 Buick Regal undercuts its competition, but not by much. The 2012 Acura TSX is just $915 more expensive than the Buick; the 2013 Volkswagen CC is $1445 more. However, the TSX comes standard with a 2.4-liter I-4 rated at 201 hp, and the CC’s standard 2.0-liter turbo-four produces 200 hp. Both of the competitors offer optional six-cylinders that best the Regal GS’s output: both the Acura’s and the VW’s 3.5-liter V-6s are good for 280 hp. That said, you have to pay extra for that additional power: the V-6 TSX starts at $36,445 and the V-6 CC is priced from $38,555.
2013 Regals will arrive in dealerships later this summer.

MT neglected to mention – 25/36 mpg (city/highway). Why would I buy this over a Camry or Sonata Hybrid? The eAssist mild-hybrid system was already a failure in the Mailbu.
Regal Turbo for $31,500… OR… You could spend $3000 fewer and get a Chrysler 200 V6. The interior is on par with the Buick, it comes with 283 HP standard, get 29 mpg highway and it doesn’t have the old man stigmatism attached to it.
