The 2013 Nissan Sentra was revealed today, showing off a 150 lb. weight loss and smaller engine, netting the car less horsepower and improved fuel economy.
The new Sentra is five percent lighter than it’s predecessor, helping it achieve a fuel economy rating of 30 mpg city, 39 mpg highway and a class-leading 34 miles per gallon combined when equipped with Nissan’s CVT transmission. A six-speed manual setup is also available on the base Sentra S model. FE+ model Sentra vehicles achieve up to 40 mpg on the highway, thanks to appearance mods that also help aerodynamics, including a deck spoiler, wind deflectors, and low roll resistance tires.
Powering the new Sentra is a 1.8-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine that makes 130 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque.
For looks, the Sentra takes on more of the brand image with the signature trapezoid-shaped grille and large wraparound headlights with LED accents. Borrowing most if its style from the Altima, Nissan’s design on the Sentra brings the car closer to the main brand image the Japanese company is going for.
Interior choices include leather seating and available maple wood-tone trim, as well as Fine Vision electroluminescent gauges. As standard equipment, the Sentra receives air conditioning with in-cabin microfilter, tilt and telescopic steering column, power windows with driver’s one-touch auto up/down, two auxiliary 12-volt power outlets, remote keyless entry and remote trunk and fuel-filler door releases. For passenger comfort, Sentra also receives standard 6-way manual driver’s seat, 4-way manual front passenger’s seat, front and rear door pockets, front center console with padded armrest and cupholders and a rear seat armrest with cupholders.
Standard multimedia in the Sentra is an AM/FM/CD system with four speakers, although a Bose premium audio system with eight speakers, an amplifier, and 4.3-inch color display, with USB connection for an iPod is available. Other infotainment features that can be had include NissanConnect with Navigation, a hands-free text messaging assistant, Pandora radio capability, streaming audio via Bluetooth and a large 5.8-inch touch-screen display.
Nissan’s easy fill tire alert, RearView monitor and Nissan intelligent key are also available options for the new Sentra, rounding out the technology options.
