At this point, everyone and their mother has done a performance comparison test between the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and 2013 Ford Shelby GT500. Heck, we’ve even done two, with the Camaro beating the Mustang in both tests as the better driver’s car. Hoping to do something a little different, Hot Rod Unlimited took the two muscle cars on a road trip to Arizona for some burnouts and a drag race at the strip.
Freiburger and Finnegan start out by installing radar detectors on the Camaro and Mustang. Why? With 1242-hp between the two cars, they’d be foolish not to. The two then set off on their road trip, full of the usual hijinks. After a quick stop at the gas station (the nemesis of both the Camaro ZL1 and Shelby GT500) Freiburger and Finnegan decide to test some of the more practical aspects of the two cars – like the ability to power shift with drinks in the cup holders. You can imagine how well that went.
