2013 Toyota Sequoia Loses 4.6L V-8 Engine, Offers Blu-Ray Player

The 2013 Toyota Sequoia will only be offered with one engine following the discontinuation of the 4.6-liter V-8 from the lineup. Since the 2012 Sequoia offered the more powerful 5.7-liter V-8 as an option costing less than $1000 on an SUV with an MSRP already over $40,000, we’re not surprised to see the 4.6-liter V-8 go.

The 5.7-liter engine is rated at 381 hp and 401 lb-ft, and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission; Towing capacity is rated 7400 pounds. The EPA rates the 2013 Sequoia at 13/18 mpg city/highway for the rear-wheel drive model and 13/17 mpg with four-wheel drive. For comparison, the outgoing 4.6-liter was rated 14/20 and 13/18 mpg in two-wheel and four-wheel-drive trims, respectively.

The 2013 Toyota Sequoia also gets a few new tech features. For starters, it will be Toyota’s first model to offer a Blu-Ray rear-seat entertainment system. Additionally, drivers can now maneuver the large SUV between lanes more safely thanks to the availability of a new blindspot monitoring system.

Aside from those changes, the 2013 Sequoia is still offered in three trim levels: SR5, Limited, and Platinum. The range-topping Platinum model comes standard with a long list of features including navigation, a rear load-leveling air suspension, adaptive cruise control, second-row heated seats, and a premium 14-speaker sound system.
