Lux Truck: Chevy Silverado High Country Edition May Top 2014 Silverado Lineup

If you want a luxurious Ford pickup, you’ll buy the F-150 King Ranch; if you want lots of luxury and a Ram, you’ll buy the Laramie Longhorn. Chevrolet doesn’t have a comparable pickup in its stable, but we hear that will soon change with the introduction of a model called the High Country.

Automotive News reports that Chevrolet’s next-generation Silverado will include a new luxury-oriented model dubbed the High Country, and was already revealed at this year’s national dealer meeting in Las Vegas. The Silverado High Country reportedly have some special leather, plenty of on-board technology and comfort features like heated/cooled seats, and a signature western feel, not unlike the western, luxurious styles of the King Ranch and Laramie Longhorn pickups. GM reportedly said “if it’s on the King Ranch, we’re going to have it.” The move has probably been a long time in the making, mostly because Chevrolet dealers have long been clamoring for a more expensive, upmarket Silverado model.

With the Cadillac Escalade EXT pickup truck nearly dead, there’s also more room in the GM stable for a luxury pickup. Giving the Chevrolet Silverado a western-themed, leather-lined pickup in the form of the High Country would allow GMC to push its Sierra Denali even further upmarket. The next-gen Denali could adopt a so-called “city truck” look like the F-150 Limited and Ram Laramie Limited, which keep the luxurious look and feel of their King Ranch and Laramie Longhorn siblings but skip the western, saddle-heavy interiors.

General Motors officials were mum about the High Country, saying that the automaker not announcing anything on the Silverado at this time or at this week’s Texas State Fair. Instead, expect to see the High Country — and the next-gen Silverado line – debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
